What should I expect the first massage visit?
It depends on the type of massage that you are wanting. If it is relaxing then you will be relaxed and rejuvenated. If you are seeking trigger point therapy or a deep tissue massage then you might be sore a day or two afterward. Of course all medical information is noted on the client intake form and precautions are taken into consideration if the massage will compromise any medical condition you may have.
How is the massage performed?
The client is lying either on their stomach or face up on the massage table with a bolster under their feet, while under a warm blanket.
What do I wear?
Depending on the technique of massage you may or may not need to undress. However, your comfort is a priority and privacy is given to undress an a sheet and blanket will be used lto cover all areas not being worked on.
What do I do during massage treatment?
Many people just relax. If you feel talkative, then talk or just relax. Do not hesitate to ask any questions during the massage.
How will a massage feel?
If you are getting a relaxing (Swedish) massage then it will be calming and relaxing. Otherwise, slight pressure will be added to relieve tension and/or muscular knots. It is always recommended to tell the therapist if too much or too little pressure is beng used. Please let the therapist know.
Will the massage oils break me out?
I use a combination of creams, oils or lotions and I can accommodate sensitive skin needs.
Is a massage always appropriate?
No, some conditions are contraindicated to massage. The client intake form is necessary for the client to fill out completely in the case their is a medical complication. Sometimes a doctors permission is needed prior to the massage. It is necessary for Pre-Natal clients in the first trimester to have a doctors approval. I am certified in Pre-Natal massage, however I would be more comfortable giving the massage with approval from your doctor within the first trimester.
How long will a massage treatment last?
I offer 60, 90, and 120 minute massages.
How will I feel after the massage?
It depends on the massage. A deeper massage will produce soreness, because of the lactic acid and other toxins that are released from soft tissue during the massage. It is always recommended to drink plenty of water, use a hot or cold compress or soak in epsom salts after the massage.
